Tiffany & Co has designed “an extraordinary collection” of platinum-set diamond and pearl jewellery for Baz Luhrmann’s latest epic, The Great Gatsby.
Announcing Tiffany’s exclusive jewellery making partnership with Warner Bros Pictures and Bazmark, executive vice president Jon King said the company had worked with Luhrmann and costume designer Catherine Martin to create the collection.
“This collaboration is a natural for us,” he said.
“Tiffany is America’s premier jeweller. Our archives contain spectacular jewels from the 1920s that are the basis of the one-of-a-kind designs we have created for this iconic American story.”
Martin added that Tiffany & Co seemed the perfect fit for the film’s jewellery “not only because F. Scott Fitzgerald himself was a customer but also because Louis Comfort Tiffany, the brand’s first design director, mixed in the actual Long Island circles described in the novel”.
“The Tiffany & Co Archives have proven to be an invaluable resource in looking back at this Golden Era of affluence and fine jewellery and the continuing tradition of excellence and exquisite craftsmanship has allowed us to both create and recreate pieces that we hope will do justice to this extraordinary novel.”
In addition to the jewellery, the film will feature china and sterling silver flatware and other accessories by Tiffany & Co.
Currently being filmed in Sydney, The Great Gatsby is based on Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 literary classic and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki and Amitabh Bachchan.
The film is due to be released next year.
