Lion lands Luminox distributorship

Lion Brands, a new entrant in the Australian watch industry, has taken on the official distributorship of Luminox watches.

Headed by ex-Swatch Group Australia managing director Graeme Goldman and his business partner Anthony Hoffman, Lion Brands has also recently taken on the distributorship of Glycine and Edox watches and plans to follow up with the distributorship of more “independently owned quality Swiss, Italian and American watch brands”.

Goldman, an avid watch collector, said he is excited to share some of his favourite brands with Australian consumers.
Launched in 1989, Luminox is renowned as the watch brand used by US Navy SEALs and US Air Force pilots.
The  Luminox Navy SEAL watch, is according to Goldman, the timepiece that made Luminox famous. The officer in charge of procurement for the Navy SEALS, Nick North, was asked to seek a more dependable watch for night missions and found the solution at a trade show where he discovered Luminox.

“He worked with Barry Cohen (Luminox cofounder) to develop a watch specifically for them and the Navy SEAL watch was born.”

According to Goldman, Luminox self-powered illumination (LLT) allows one to view time at-a-glance, no matter what the light level, even in complete darkness.

“The self-powered illumination system on all Luminox watches employs tiny micro gas light sources,” he said.

“Each watch has micro gas lights mounted on the hands, dial and when necessary, even the bezel. They are always visible.”
