As Royal baby fever grips the world, R&D Italian Jewellery has taken on its own ‘Royal baby’ – Clogau Gold – a UK jewellery brand which includes a touch of the Welsh gold used by the British Royal Family in every piece.
R&D Italian jewellery managing director Robert Botter discovered the brand in 2012 while visiting the UK where it is stocked in over 350 stores.
He then decided to import it as the jewellery is “meaningful and unique with a captivating story”.
“Each piece of Clogau jewellery contains a touch of the very same rare Welsh Gold used to create generations of Royal Family wedding rings,” he said.
The British Royal Family first used pure Welsh gold to create their wedding rings in 1923 when the Queen Mother, then Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, married the Duke of York.
Since then other members of the Royal Family to have Welsh gold wedding rings include Queen Elizabeth (1947), Princess Anne (1973), the late Princess Diana (1981), Prince Charles (1981 and 2005), Camilla The Duchess of Cornwall (2005) and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (2011).
Clogau Gold originates from Clogau St.David’s gold mine which is arguably home to “the rarest, most expensive and most sought after gold in the world”.
According to the company, due to its scarcity only a touch is included within each piece of Clogau Gold jewellery to ensure “the longevity of Welsh gold supplies and the affordability of the jewellery”.
Botter said the Clogau jewellery collection includes over 400 pieces in 9 and 18 carat designs as well as sterling silver with rose gold accents or detailing.
Recommended retail prices are expected to start from $125 to $600 for the silver and rose gold designs, $400 to $2500 for the 9 carat designs and $1700 to $7000 for the 18 carat designs.
