The past few years have seen a significant shift in the jewellery industry with businesses coming together like never before to collaborate and connect in order to safeguard the future of the industry. With increased pressure on the industry since COVID-19, to focus on education, skills shortages and business acumen, it’s the perfect time for the industry to hold more significant assets of support, unite all areas of the industry and build on its future.
Over the past few months, the Jewellery Industry Network (JIN) has been working on a significant new initiative for the jewellery industry, and it hopes to add true and lasting value for all segments of the industry.
Come and visit The Centre – Sydney, Australia’s first jewellery industry centre
This milestone for the industry is significant, as the space embodies all the elements the industry is known for encourages creativity and collaboration and offers genuine support to existing and upcoming businesses to encourage a future of thriving individuals and businesses in the industry.
The Centre Sydney is based in Leichhardt and is a three-level property boasting street frontage on Parramatta Rd, free local car parking and floors of amenities ready for the use of jewellery industry members.
The Showroom – A bright long space ready for client meetings, VIP nights and industry networking. The Showroom is a safe and secure space, with lounge suites, meeting areas, coffee and tea facilities and a library of jewellery magazines and textbooks making this space the perfect area to study, become inspired, and meet with clients for a consultation or appointment.
The Showroom is also equipped with a large-screen TV ready for sit-down seminars or workshops. Industry suppliers or presenters can host a couple dozen guests in the Showroom for training or perhaps even a brand launch, making it a versatile area to suit so many needs.
The Workshop – Level two of The Centre offers a jewellers Workshop fully equipped with nine benches, and tools for hire, in an air-conditioned and secure space. The Workshop is available for residency or hot benching. Historically the space was run as an education facility for the industry and is filled with charm and a wealth of knowledge in the walls. The Workshop can be hired out to do product demonstrations, equipment trials and more. It’s an area for upskilling and community connection.
The Office – The top floor of The Centre is a cosy office space, set up with multiple desks and equipment ready for members to pop in and get productive. With WiFi and charge points, the office is an easy-to-use space for anyone heading into Sydney for work. A six to eight person meeting desk is also set up in the space with a wall-mounted presentation TV for group software training, or company meetings.

A Community Centre in Challenging Times
The build and launch of The Centre couldn’t have come at a better time for the industry with multiple economic factors at play affecting business here in Australia. Not only does The Centre allow businesses to think about cutting costs and opting for this space where the outlay of a workshop and retail space is no longer affordable for their business, but it also allows growing businesses to take the next step in their development without taking the financial risk of leasing a space or fitting out a shop or workshop.
Safety and Security
The growing business model of jewellery consultants or designers comes with its challenges, like finding a space that is not at home to meet with clients and design a diamond ring or show the future betrothed couple through a few special stones or pieces. Having a safe and private space to conduct business is hard to come by for these businesses, until The Centre.
Now consultants and jewellers with studios that are not consumer-friendly, can book a space at The Centre and see their clients professionally and safely. The same goes for jewellery sales reps, who travel in and out of Sydney and must meet clients in a hotel room or bring a valuable range bag through a shopping centre. The Centre provides safe lock-up areas and a great facility to host one, or multiple clients in an environment that has been set up with this need in mind.

The Centre is actively seeking industry members to be involved in the space. It has been built for you and the community. The Jewellery Industry Network’s objective is to find a way to be a solid resource for as many in the industry as possible.
Perhaps you have old jewellery books, tools, or even equipment that you don’t need anymore. The Centre would love it. Get involved by becoming a sponsor of The Centre and have your name engraved on the wall of the space where guests and members can appreciate your generosity. You can also donate your time and come and assist with events or training, especially for those who have niche skills to offer industry members looking to enhance their knowledge.
