Luxury watch brand, Patek Philippe, recently acquired a stake in Geneva-based Salanitro SA, a gem-setting company which sets gems for many major watch brands.

The company was founded in 1990 and employs more than 230 people. It was one of the first companies to be double certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). Despite keeping a low profile in the jewellery world, the company is at the service of more than 80 of the most prestigious fine jewellery and fine watchmaking brands.

The acquisition by Patek Philippe represents two family businesses coming together – and perhaps an indication of how important gems will become in the future of luxury watchmaking.
