The Reed Gift Fair in Melbourne has kicked the retail year off to a bright start with spending as a direct result of the Fair currently totalling $26,276,643 according to Micromex Research.
Reed Gift Fairs exhibition director Omer Soker said the Melbourne fair, which brought retailers keen to stock up after Christmas and seek out New Year trends together with over 320 wholesalers, had surpassed expectations.
“The scene over the last few days has been great and we really feel that things are picking up for the retail market,” he said.
“Wholesalers are happy, retailers are buying and 2010 is looking good. We believe this result will be echoed throughout the year at all of our fairs,” he said.
Held from January 30 to February 2, the Fair attracted 80 jewellery exhibitors including 14 fine jewellery companies.
Jewellery wholesaler Peter Burgess of B Luscious said the company had enjoyed its  “best ever sales at this fair with plenty of new leads”.
“We exhibit at all of the Reed Gift Fairs because we feel the timing of the fairs fits well with retailers buying cycles.
“The next on our calendar is Sydney February in three weeks’ time and given the success we’ve had at Melbourne, we’re really looking forward to it.”
