Bulgari revealed that it will sell one of its most remarkable gems, the Bulgari Laguna Blu, an 11.16 carat blue diamond. Bulgari’s global ambassador, Priyanka Chopra Jones debuted the gem at the 2023 Met Gala in a white diamond-studded platinum necklace featuring the historic Laguna Blu Diamond. The diamond’s upcoming appearance at Sotheby’s Geneva Luxury Week in May is expected to fetch a selling price of $25 million.
The Laguna Blu is up for auction for the first time since it was created in 1970. This extraordinary gemstone has been part of a European collection for over 50 years and has received the highest grade for a blue diamond from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Its unmodified, pear-shaped design and exceptional colour and hue make it a unique rarity three times over.
The highly anticipated diamond making its grand debut at the renowned Met Gala in New York on Monday has been making headlines and is expected to pique the interest of collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. Sotheby’s in Geneva is also no stranger to breaking records. In November 2015, Sotheby’s set a world auction record for any diamond by selling the Blue Moon of Josephine for $48.5 million. To this day, it holds the record price per carat at over $4 million per carat.
The Bulgari Laguna Blu, along with the recently unveiled Eternal Pink and Estrela De Fura 55.22, marks the completion of a trilogy of exceptional coloured gemstone sale announcements for the auction.
