The famous dot-com has gone bricks-and-mortar on New York’s 47th Street with a store front it’s calling a “luxury exchange.”
In recent years eBay has been increasingly focussing on its image as a luxury destination, offering the ‘authenticity guarantee’ in 2020. The new store taps into that by inviting shoppers to bring in a luxury item for appraisal. Once the item is assigned a value, shoppers can then shop the store’s inventory of designer watches, jewellery and handbags and walk out with their new item in a direct exhange.
eBay remains a leading online seller of second hand luxury items. In 2021, it claimed to have sold eight fine jewellery pieces in the United States per minute, as well as eight luxury watches.
