The National Diamond Council (NDC) has launched its new Assure portal designed to rank diamond testing systems on their ability to distinguish mined diamonds from lab-grown diamonds.

The Assure 2.0 site examines the various testing instruments currently on the market, comparing the types of diamonds they screen for and their success in doing so. It also rates the level of expertise required to successfully operate each system.

A bit like Australia’s leading consumer advocacy group Choice but for diamond testers, the NDC has used sample diamonds on each system, as well as a novice to use the testing instrumentation to simulate how each system might operate in the hands of a new purchaser.

Under the Assure grading system, each diamond testing brand is rated on their false positive results and overall accuracy. It also rates their referral rate, which is the number of times a stone needs to be ‘referred’ for further testing.

Diamond testing systems who participate in the programme receive the Assure Partners and Certification Mark.
