The decision to move the date of the next DIAMOND GUILD AWARDS follows the announcement of both the JAA and Expertise Events to hold separate design competitions in the coming year. Traditionally a biannual event, the Diamond Guild Australia Jewellery Awards will now be held a year later than the original schedule.
‘We want to encourage and facilitate as many jewellers as possible to enter each Awards event,’ comments Melissa James, Executive Officer of Diamond Guild Australia. ‘The DIAMOND GUILD AUSTRALIA JEWELLERY AWARDS are the keystone diamond jewellery design competition for the Australian industry and we are proud that it is open to all jewellers and designers working within a retail jewellery environment. As such, our members feel that to hold three design competitions in the coming year is not in the best interests of the industry.’
‘Since its establishment in 2005, the DIAMOND GUILD AWARDS have been conducted in alternating years to the JAA competition. This has allowed jewellers wishing to participate in both events the opportunity to submit their best work without the pressure of two competitions in a single year’. ‘Now with the announcement of the Expertise Events Awards in 2017 a better result will be achieved if the Guilds’ Awards are held the following year to give maximum media exposure for the entrants and the industry as a whole’. ‘Competing for airtime is not going to be beneficial for any stakeholders.’ James states.
Coming into in its 12th year the DIAMOND GUILD AUSTRALIA JEWELLERY AWARDS are an open, biannual design event, providing a high profile, high quality competition that achieves much to raise the profile of the Australian jewellery industry both locally and on the world stage.
As a not-for-profit association, the DIAMOND GUILD AUSTRALIA appreciates the importance of its role in supporting the Australian Jewellery industry and nurturing new talent by creating an opportunity for all jewellers to shine. In 2018 the Guild is looking forward once again to showcasing the best of Australian Jewellery Design.
