TOM FORD TO BE HONOURED WITH THE OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD AT THE FASHION AWARDS 2024 PRESENTED BY PANDORA
The British Fashion Council (BFC) has proudly announced that the illustrious American designer, businessman, and filmmaker, Tom Ford, will be honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award at The Fashion Awards 2024 presented by Pandora. The award ceremony, set for Monday, 2nd December at the Royal Albert Hall in London, will celebrate Ford’s transformative impact on fashion, luxury, and cinema.
Ford’s journey in fashion began in 1990 when he joined Gucci as the Chief Womenswear Designer. By 1994, he had risen to Creative Director, leading Gucci’s meteoric rise to one of the most profitable luxury brands globally. In 1999, Ford and then-CEO Domenico De Sole co-founded the Gucci Group (now Kering), where Ford also took on creative leadership for Yves Saint Laurent. In 2005, he launched his own label, TOM FORD, which was met with international acclaim and solidified his status as a luxury powerhouse.
Beyond fashion, Ford has made significant contributions to film. His directorial debut, A Single Man (2009), earned an Academy Award nomination, followed by the 2016 thriller Nocturnal Animals, which won the Grand Jury Prize and earned Ford a Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. Additionally, as former Chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Ford spearheaded initiatives like “A Common Thread” during the pandemic, expanded CFDA scholarships, and diversified the organisation’s board.
Reflecting on the award, Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the BFC, remarked, “Tom Ford has redefined the boundaries of fashion and culture through his visionary approach across multiple industries. From his transformative work at Gucci to establishing his eponymous brand and becoming an award-winning filmmaker, Ford has consistently pushed the limits of creativity.”
Ford shared his gratitude, stating, “Receiving this recognition from the British Fashion Council is a tremendous honour. My career in fashion and film has always centred around creativity and beauty, and I am thankful for the talented teams who have supported my vision. This award is deeply meaningful, as London has been a central part of my journey.”
The Outstanding Achievement Award celebrates figures who, throughout their careers, have revolutionised the fashion industry through innovation and creativity. Ford joins a distinguished list of past recipients, including Giorgio Armani, Miuccia Prada, Karl Lagerfeld, and Dame Anna Wintour.
Organised by the BFC, The Fashion Awards support the BFC Foundation and celebrate fashion’s role at the nexus of culture and creativity, honouring industry icons whose work exemplifies purpose, excellence, and artistry. This year’s event is expected to be a spectacular highlight on the global fashion calendar.
