UBM, one of the world’s leading organisers of jewellery and gem fairs, will launch its first event in Mumbai, the Mumbai Jewellery & Gem Fair, in December.
UBM Asia President and CEO Jime Essink said the launch was in direct response to market demands.
“They (the market) have requested that UBM come into Mumbai with a show for the key buying season at the beginning of the year,” he said.
“They recognise the unmatched quality and professionalism of the UBM events in India and around the world.”
In addition to its global portfolio of jewellery fairs including The Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, UBM already organises the two leading shows in the south of India – Gems & Jewellery India International Exhibition in Chennai and Hyderabad Jewellery, Pearl & Gem Fair.
Essink said the new Fair will feature exhibitors of diamonds, pearls, gemstones, silver jewellery, fine finished jewellery, machinery and equipment, software and allied products, and packaging and display from “all over India and the world”.
Meanwhile Letitia Chow,  UBM’s director of business development for jewellery, said that Mumbai is India’s financial capital.
“It (Mumbai) is the gateway for international buyers and sellers to access the market,” she said.
“The jewellery sold here is increasingly matching the requirements of international buyers while at the same time domestic consumers’ tastes are becoming more sophisticated.”
The Mumbai Jewellery & Gem Fair will be held on December 16-18.
