When Queen Elizabeth pre-recorded a message for the annual Commonwealth Day on March 7, she wore a platinum, diamond and sapphire brooch, known as her “Chrysanthemum brooch” which has a significant historical and personal history.
She was presented with the brooch when she launched a new oil tanker in 1946, when she was still a princess. She famously wore the brooch for a portrait with Prince Philip during their honeymoon, and the couple recreated the photo – with the brooch in place – on their 60th anniversary in November 2007.
For her Commonwealth Day address, she a wore a blue dress and jacket, accessorised with pearl drop earrings and a pearl necklace, along with the chrysanthemum brooch.
