The Fiera di Vicenza and CIBJO will work together for the next five years to develop a program to promote Corporate Social Responsibility in the international jewellery industry.
Announcing the partnership at the Vicenzaoro First jewellery show last week, Fiera di Vicenza president Dr Roberto Ditri said CSR will be an integral part of the jewellery business in the markets of the future.
“Younger consumers are motivated not only by fashion sense, craftsmanship and design excellence, but also by purchases that are personally meaningful,” he said.
“Jewellery will need to fulfil a higher purpose, and that includes its responsibility to society.
“Fiera di Vicenza is delighted to join CIBJO in providing the tools for the jewellery industry to make this possible.”
CIBJO president Gaetano Cavalieri added that the new program will serve not only the business interests of CIBJO and Fiera di Vicenza but “also the interest of our customers and those of the communities living in the countries and regions in which we are active.”
“As part of the jewellery sector’s CSR programme, in 2006 CIBJO committed the jewellery industry to the fulfilment of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals,” he said.
“They are scheduled to be met by 2015, which also happens to be the deadline for the implementation of Fiera di Vicenza’s five-year development plan.”
