Robert Musson, Levon Arzumanian, Berj Ohanessian, Nicholas Theocari and Gary Thyregod were the big winners at this year’s Diamond Guild Australia Jewellery Awards.
Held at Luke Mangan’s Glass restaurant at the Sydney Hilton, the fourth biennial awards dinner was hosted by Natalie Gruzlewski and featured Ricki-Lee Coulter performing her new single, ‘Raining Diamonds’.
The major winners at the awards, which attracted entries from over 120 retail jewellers from across Australia, were:
The Solitaire Award
‘Ribbons of Love’ by Levon Arzumanian from Arman’s Fine Jewellery
An 18ct white gold ring designed to wrap around the centre with a ribbon of rose gold holding a round brilliant cut diamond (total carat weight-1.64)
The Red Carpet Award
‘Fireworks’ by Berj Ohanessian from Berjani Jewellers
18ct white gold multi claw ring set with 62 brilliant cut diamonds (total carat weight-7.13)
The Fancy Cut Award
‘Mati’ by Nicholas Theocari from MDT Design
Ladies 18ct white gold narrow, flat, split shank ring with a tension set 1.11ct Marquise cut diamond (total carat weight-1.11)
The Gents Award
‘Bling or No Bling’ by Gary Thyregod from Gary Thyregod Jewellery
Gents thumb ring with reversible panel set with 102 gypsy and thread set diamonds in 14ct white gold and 18ct rose gold (total carat weight-2.20)
The Fancy Colour Award
‘Embrace’ by Robert Musson from Musson Jewellers
18ct white gold ring set with 1.68ct pink diamonds and 1.38ct blue diamonds (total carat weight-3.06)
According to the Diamond Guild, the winners were selected by a judging panel comprising fashion designer Alex Perry; jewellery photographer David Perryman; award-winning jeweller John Calleija; Harper’s BAZAAR editor Edwina McCann and Qantas The Australian Way editor Susan Skelly.
“The calibre of the winning pieces in this year’s Awards is world class,” said DGA spokesperson Julian Farren- Price.
The winning pieces will be showcased in the December issue of Harpers Bazaar and the November issue of Qantas – The Australian Way.
