The Diamond Guild Australia has expanded its bi-annual jewellery competition with the addition of three new award categories.

Announcing the new categories for the 2013 Diamond Guild Australia Jewellery Awards, DGA executive officer Melissa James said the new categories (‘Everyday Diamonds’, ‘Up and Coming Designer’ and ‘Supreme Award Winner’) offered jewellers new opportunities “to shine”.

The 8 categories for the 2013 competition are:

1. Red Carpet
2. Fancy Cut Diamonds
3. Fancy Colour Diamonds
4. Gents Diamonds
5. Solitaire Diamonds
6. Everyday Diamonds
7. Up and Coming Designer
8. The Supreme Award Winner

James said the new ‘Everyday Diamonds’ category will have a maximum price point that will challenge Australian jewellers participating “to use diamonds and their chosen materials creatively to design a piece of jewellery that is innovative yet at an attainable price point” while the new ‘Up and Coming Designer’ category is open to new jewellers who are completing their apprenticeship and will allow young design talent to shine.

“The Guild appreciates the importance of its role in supporting the Australian Diamond Jewellery industry and nurturing new talent by creating an opportunity for all jewellers to shine,” she said.

“We are looking forward to receiving some fabulous entries in all the categories and hope to unearth some promising young talent in 2013.”

The judging criteria for the eight categories will be released in coming weeks and jewellers working in a retail business who have registered their interest in participating in the 2013 competition will be formally invited to enter.

Registrations of interest can be completed online at diamondguild.com.au.
