The Australian jewellery industry is set to benefit from a major step forward in education and training, with the launch of workshops at The Centre, a new initiative by the Jewellery Industry Network. Designed as an inclusive and multi-functional hub, The Centre provides comprehensive support for all members of the trade, offering facilities and resources to help jewellers of all skill levels thrive.

The Centre boasts a purpose-built environment with nine fully equipped jewellery benches, making it ideal for hosting resident jewellers as well as monthly training workshops. It provides a unique opportunity for jewellers, students, and industry professionals to enhance both their hand skills and business acumen.

“Our mission is to offer services and support across the jewellery trade, from bench jewellers to studio jewellers and students,” says Laura Moore, Managing Director of the Jewellery Industry Network. “The Centre has been built to be a hub for the entire industry, regardless of location. We’re excited to launch a full calendar of events and training in 2025 to meet the needs of our community.”

Workshops starting in March 2025

The Centre will kick off its training program in March in collaboration with renowned educator Peter Keep of Jewellery Training Solutions. Known worldwide for his expertise and accessible teaching style, Peter will bring a wealth of knowledge to The Centre.

The first workshops to be introduced are tailored for different experience levels:

Beginners Ring-Making Classes: A perfect introduction to jewellery manufacture. Not only for budding jewellers but even retail team members could benefit from this hands-on experience providing insight into the jewellery manufacturing process.

Three-Day Stone Setting Workshop: This advanced workshop will focus on three stone-setting techniques, enabling jewellers to elevate their craftsmanship and expand the design options they can offer clients.

Laura Moore emphasises the significance of Peter Keep’s involvement: “To have Peter offer training at The Centre is incredibly exciting. He’s a sought-after educator with a global reputation, and his workshops will provide immense value to students and professionals alike.”

Addressing the Industry’s Challenges

With the industry experiencing a shortage of skilled bench jewellers, The Centre’s role as a training and education hub is more crucial than ever. Its emphasis on fostering knowledge-sharing among educators, content experts, and jewellers addresses a critical gap in the trade.

Beyond technical skills, The Centre aims to provide workshops on business strategies and industry insights, ensuring jewellers can succeed both at the bench and in running their businesses.

A Vision for the Future

As The Centre gears up to deliver a packed schedule of events for 2025, its founders hope to create a lasting impact on the Australian jewellery trade. By providing a space for skill development and innovation, The Centre is poised to become a cornerstone of the industry.

Whether you’re a jeweller seeking to refine your craft, a student looking to learn from the best, or a retail professional aiming to deepen your product knowledge, The Centre offers an unparalleled opportunity to grow.
