A former employee of an Edinburgh jewellery store has been found guilty of stealing jewellery from her employer – and was tracked down using social media.
The employee fell under suspicion in February when an audit revealed pieces of the collection were missing. Store manager, Emma Davidson, had a hunch and stalked the social media accounts of her staff until she saw something familiar.
Sure enough, the employee, who had since taken a role at another store, posted a picture of herself wearing a £1,250 Swiss watch similar to the one that had been stolen. Davidson reported the matter to the police who searched the employees home and found a further 11 pieces of stolen jewellery.
