The silver creations of Moonee Valley jewellery designer Danielle Mondo are set to go national after she was announced as the winner of the Fairfax and Roberts Jewellery Design Contest.

As part of her prize, Fairfax and Roberts will craft Mondo’s winning sterling silver spinning wheel pendant design and retail the piece in Myer stores around Australia as part of its new diffusion line, ‘Portrait’.

Thirty-four-year old Mondo, who established Mondo Jewellery Designs in 2003, took up jewellery making as a hobby at a young age.

“My passion has always been accessories, so to be able to make my own is a bonus,” she said.

Danielle submitted sketch designs of two pendants and one ring to the Fairfax and Roberts contest.

She was thrilled to receive the phone call that her spinning wheel pendant design had been awarded first prize.

Fairfax and Roberts senior marketing executive Penelope McGufficke said Danielle’s Spinning Wheel pendant design was chosen as the winner because its geometric shape and functionality complemented the Portrait design philosophy.

“With its balance of positive and negative space, the pendant creates volume but is light and comfortable to wear,” she said.

Danielle aims to continue developing her brand and hopes that her designs will become well-known globally in the not-too-distant future.
