Tiffany & Co has officially launched its Great Gatsby Collection of platinum and diamond-set jewellery inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s latest epic of the same name.
Created in collaboration with the film’s costume and production designer Catherine Martin, the jewellery is based on designs from the Tiffany Archives and worn by the film’s all-star cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, who appear as Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan.
“The jewelry symbolises the story’s themes of wealth and privilege, and we approached its design with the utmost style and luxury in mind,” said Tiffany & Co executive vice-president Jon King.
Collection highlights include the pictured Savoy headpiece – featuring a detachable brooch, it is set with freshwater pearls and 25 carats of round brilliant diamonds and has a RRP of $200,000.
Martin said Tiffany & Co seemed the perfect fit for the film’s jewellery “not only because F. Scott Fitzgerald himself was a customer but also because Louis Comfort Tiffany, the brand’s first design director, mixed in the actual Long Island circles described in the novel”.
“The Tiffany & Co Archives have proven to be an invaluable resource in looking back at this Golden Era of affluence and fine jewellery and the continuing tradition of excellence and exquisite craftsmanship has allowed us to both create and recreate pieces that we hope will do justice to this extraordinary novel,” she said.
The Great Gatsby is due to premier in the United States on Friday (May 10) and begin screening in Australia on May 30.
