Despite recent turmoil in the world economy, this year’s Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair is shaping up to be the biggest ever with a nine percent increase in exhibitor numbers since last year.
UBM Asia jewellery fair director Celine Lau said the June fair will feature more than 1200 exhibitors and attract “thousands of visitors from over 100 countries and regions”.
“With the economy now on the upswing, the June fair is back on the growth path,” she said.
“Hong Kong is one of the key jewellery trade capitals of the world and the ample opportunities provided by the burgeoning jewellery demand in mainland China allow us to grow further.
“In 2009, Hong Kong’s total exports of jewellery reached US$3.65 billion whilst exports to China jumped further by 68 percent; these figures reflect strong consumer demand amidst the robust growth of the Chinese economy during the period.”
Lau said the nine percent increase in exhibitor numbers at this year’s fair shows that “confidence is returning”.
“They (exhibitors) are eager to expand their business in the emerging Asian markets via Hong Kong,” she said.
“As a further testament to the strengthening confidence in the trade, the Fair occupies 15 percent more space than last year… yet we still receive requests from a number of exhibitors to further expand their booths.”
The Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair will be held from June 24 to June 27 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre,
