As the anticipation builds for the upcoming Jewellery Industry Fair (JIF) this August at Carriageworks, excitement is also mounting for a new and thrilling addition to the event – the Between the Lugs (BTL) Watch Fair. This unique collaboration promises to bring together the best of both worlds, offering an unparalleled platform for watch enthusiasts and industry professionals.

A Harmonious Partnership

In an exclusive interview with Nick Hooper from MAD Associates, BTL founder, we explored the inspiration and vision behind this innovative partnership. Hooper emphasised the synergy between the watch and jewellery markets, stating, “The two markets are very similar and share many attributes, but until now, there hasn’t been a place where it can all come together.” The collaboration with JIF leverages their expertise in event management, creating an opportunity for watch brands to gain a prominent voice within the industry.

Laura Moore, Managing Director of the Jewellery Industry Network, event organiser for the Jewellery Industry Fair, reinforces that ‘this exciting addition to the JIF brings a strong foundation for collaboration between the watch and jewellery sectors in the Australian market.’

Inspiration Behind the Fair

The decision to run the watch fair alongside the jewellery industry fair was driven by JIF’s extensive network and their innovative approach to events. Hooper explained, “The JIF’s network and expertise in event management has opened the opportunity to elevate what is already done in the market. Their honest and transparent approach to the jewellery industry is refreshing and aligns with the values of our industry.”

Showcasing Notable Brands

BTL Watch Fair is set to feature the country’s largest selection of prestigious brands. “BTL has attracted Haute Horology Independent brands such as Jacob & Co, Angelus, and Speake Marin, which wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Hardy Brothers,” Hooper shared. This diverse array of exhibitors ensures that attendees will experience a rich tapestry of the finest in horology.

Exclusive Timepieces on Display

One of the highlights of the fair will be the exclusive and limited-edition timepieces on display. Attendees can look forward to marvelling at Fortis’s original space-used timepieces, which will be showcased before finding a home with a lucky retailer. Additionally, SEVENFRIDAY will present its innovative FreeD-b models, 3D printed from sustainable organic materials. “There will be many special pieces on show at the fair,” Hooper confirmed, promising a treat for all watch aficionados.

A Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, Hooper envisions a lasting partnership with JIF, stating, “Between the Lugs Watch Fair sees a long future collaborating with JIF with the current calendar.” The long-term goals for BTL are ambitious yet focused, aiming to become the premier watch event in Australia. “Our aim is for BTL to be the premier watch event in Australia, providing the platform for independent brands to flourish and gain market share in a collaborative environment,” he explained.

Creating Meaningful Connections

Hooper expressed his hopes for attendees, emphasising the fair’s core objective. “Our key objective for the fair is to share our passion for the watch industry with end consumers, retailers, key opinion leaders, and beyond,” he stated. The event aims to foster connections between watches and their future owners, something made possible through the support of the jewellery industry.

As we look forward to August, the BTL Watch Fair at the Jewellery Industry Fair promises to be a landmark event, setting a new standard for industry collaboration and showcasing the very best in horological craftsmanship. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to experience the pinnacle of watchmaking in Australia.
