Queen Elizabeth II attended the 2021 state opening of the UK parliament wearing a sentimental favourite accessory, a set of two art deco aquamarine clip brooches, given to her on her 18th birthday by her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, in 1944.
The brooches can be clipped together to make one oval, but the Queen generally prefers to wear them separately, alongside each other. According to The Royal Collection, the Queen’s brooches were made by Boucheron, in the clip style made popular by Cartier. She tends to choose the brooches as accessories to dresses that are soft blue or violet in colour.
At the state opening she also wore her three-strand pearl necklace along diamond and pearl drop earrings.
Due to COVID restrictions, the state opening of parliament was a simplified event, so the Queen did not wear her ceremonial robes and crown.
