A pocket watch that can also be worn as a wrist watch has earned top honours at this year’s Hong Kong Watch and Clock Design Competition – as well as a place in the spotlight at this month’s HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair.
Selected from more than 210 entries, the winning watch in the competition’s ‘open category’, was designed by Wincy Horological.
According to the designer, the ‘10.2’ watch “combines modern and classic elements without sacrificing the core spirit of a pocket watch.
Meanwhile the winning watch in the ‘student category’, titled ‘Globe Watch’, was designed by Fok Yiu Chor.
“While Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) helps divide the world into different time zones, many existing watch designs do not provide a user-friendly interface for GMT,” he said.
“The world map dial in my design, however, helps the wearer connect two different places with two different time zones”.
The two winning designs will be on display at the HKTDC Fair, which is expected to attract more than 700 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions, from September 7-11.
