Michael Hill International has won the inaugural Demandware Commerce Pacesetter Award for its innovative approach to digital retailing.

The retail jeweller launched four e-commerce sites (across Canada, the US, Australia and NZ) using the Demandware platform in November featuring “a highly interactive user experience” that includes a ‘build your own charm bracelet’ feature, shoppable videos and interactive catalogues.

Within three months, the company experienced “an 85 percent increase in site visits, a 220 percent increase in conversion rates, a 97 percent increase in mobile traffic, a 500 percent increase in transactions and a 290 percent increase in sales”.

Michael Hill International group digital manager James Johnson said the company was honoured to have been recognised on the world stage for its commitment to creating a superior online customer experience.

“Buying a beautiful piece of jewellery is a very special moment and Michael Hill International has worked very hard over the years to create a unique and memorable in-store experience for our customers,” he said.

“With the growth of digital shopping channels, it was essential we build an online customer experience, but equally important to ensure it reflected and rivalled that of being in-store as it’s our mission to deliver a quality, deeply engaging retail experience for each of our customers, regardless of where or how they choose to shop.”

The Demandware Commerce Pacesetter Award recognises individuals and organisations that have leveraged the power of the Demandware platform in the most effective and innovative ways to move their businesses forward.
