After a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, senior leaders from the global diamond industry gathered at the first Israel Diamond Conference at International Diamond Week. The week-long series of events, sponsored by the Israel Diamond Exchange, allowed industry leaders to discuss innovations, share their experiences, and explore new business opportunities. The conference was a much-anticipated event, and the attendees were excited to meet in person. The event was a great success, and the attendees left with new insights and strengthened relationships.

Boaz Moldawsky, the president of the Israel Diamond Exchange opened the conference. He states, “Our industry faces many challenges that directly affect the market situation and the demand for our goods. We believe that your participation testifies to the appreciation and trust that the Israel Diamond Exchange has gained from around the world.”

Isaac Herzog, the President of the State of Israel, delivered a video message commending the diamond industry for its significant contribution to Israel’s economy. The audience also had the privilege of hearing from Yossi Cohen, former Mossad director, who offered an insider’s perspective on Israel’s national vision and the global geo-political situation.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman and chief executive officer of the Dubai Multi-Commodities Center, was awarded the first Israel Diamond Exchange Dignitary Award for promoting trade between Israel and the UAE. This award recognises his significant contribution to the growing economic relationship between the two countries.

During the event, industry analyst, Edahn Golan discussed the current state of the industry and his predictions for the future. The event also included a panel discussion on rough diamond supply, featuring Eira Thomas, chief executive officer of Lucara, Chris Del Gatto, chairman and chief executive officer of Del Gatto Diamond Finance Fund, and Ophir Gore, Israel Diamond Controller. This also included David Kellie, chief executive officer of the Natural Diamond Council, and Martin Rapaport, chairman of the Rapaport Group, giving two fascinating talks on natural diamonds.
