Jewellery professionals in India will have a unique opportunity this October to enhance their expertise in the identification of lab-grown diamonds through a series of practical workshops led by Branko Deljanin, president of the Canadian Gemmological Laboratory (CGL). An esteemed diamond expert and researcher, Deljanin will conduct these sessions in Mumbai and Hyderabad from October 3-9, 2024. The workshops will be held in association with HRD Antwerp and Basil Labs, with the support of the Diamond Research Center (DRC) in Surat, which will provide state-of-the-art screening and identification instruments.

These workshops are designed to equip participants with specialized skills necessary for the accurate testing and identification of both natural and synthetic diamonds, including those produced using High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) methods. Attendees will gain hands-on experience with portable instruments, learning to navigate the benefits and limitations of various testing techniques.

Workshop Objectives:

Skill Enhancement: Expand the specialist skills needed to differentiate between natural and synthetic diamonds.

Methodology Evaluation: Develop the ability to recognize the usefulness and limitations of testing methods using portable instruments.

Screening Techniques: Learn to use fluorescence and cross-polarized filters to screen and identify diamonds, including HPHT-grown and CVD-grown stones.

Spectrometry Application: Understand the application of portable spectrometers in diamond identification, with a focus on the practical aspects of each technique.

Final Identification: Master the final identification of both natural and synthetic diamonds using a combination of standard and advanced affordable instruments.

What sets these workshops apart is the original research that Deljanin integrates into his educational programs. With over 30 years of experience working in major North American gem labs and a passion for teaching, Deljanin offers attendees access to a unique collection of 100 research samples accumulated over 25 years. These samples showcase the essential characteristics required to understand the origins and properties of diamonds. Additionally, instruments and books designed by Deljanin himself will be available to support the testing methods taught during the sessions.
