Letter from the editor

February, 2023

Welcome to the first issue of JW magazine for 2023. Our team is so excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to learn, uncover and share with you the changes the industry is undergoing. The strength and resilience of our community is inspiring and we hope to do our part in championing this progress.

In 2022, Jewellery World magazine went through our own changes. Not only did our team evolve and grow, we also went through a complete brand overhaul. At JW, you’ll notice a fresh face, new logo, branding, updated website and enhancements to our digital footprint. Changing for us meant that we would reaffirm our commitment to the jewellery industry through renewed relevance and broadening our audience. We’re here to serve you and we don’t take that responsibility lightly.

The industry has evolved so much in recent years. We’ve seen the skyrocketing increase in demand for lab grown diamonds, businesses facing skilled labour shortages, a growing preference for custom made products – the list goes on.

The emergence of traceability and provenance for raw materials is included in the list of significant changes the industry is facing. This will further highlight the importance of purchasing from and supporting local industry, a topic we cover in next month’s issue.

One very positive and exciting change occurring in the industry right now is the way relationships are formed and forged in the industry. Businesses are looking for ways to support each other, help each other grow and in turn be part of the changes the industry needs to see. Covid has helped us prioritise what we deem important in our lives, including the positive impact we can make with our businesses, networks and broader community.

The first industry event on the calendar for 2023 is the Jewellery Industry Fair in Melbourne, where JW will be working with guests and suppliers to share their stories and have a direct connection with industry people. Our mission is to continually provide the industry with a platform to share and promote their own good news, uplifting the industry’s ability to grow and enhance its story.

This year, JW will be amplifying the positivity the industry has to share, showing the absolute beauty and creativity of our community.

This is your industry magazine, your industry, your story, your craft, and we are so honoured to share it with the jewellery world.
