The award celebrates her expertise in showcasing one of the world’s rarest gemstones—Australian black opal—through this captivating piece that features a delicate blend of black opal, mother of pearl, and titanium.

The Whirlpool Stingray brooch, which was a highlight at the renowned Artistar Jewelry Exhibition at Milan’s Palazzo Bovara, depicts a graceful stingray swirling within a wave. This striking design not only showcases the vibrant beauty of Australian opals but also symbolises Xu’s deep connection to nature and wildlife preservation. “I’m surprised and excited to be recognised on such an international stage. Opal gems hold a cherished place in my heart, and each stone has a unique story waiting to be told,” Cindy shared.

As part of her Eternal Wildlife collection, the Whirlpool Stingray was displayed alongside other works, including Golden Scarab, Overjoy Magpie, and Guardians, all of which reflect Xu’s dedication to environmental themes and endangered species. Cindy’s designs will also be featured in the Artistar Jewels book, further solidifying her global recognition.

Cindy’s journey into the world of jewellery design began after moving to Australia and discovering a passion for opals in the mining towns of Lightning Ridge and Coober Pedy. Her career quickly gained momentum, leading to her winning the Australian Opal Award in 2019. Today, she continues to draw inspiration from her travels across Australia and her commitment to wildlife preservation, which deeply influences her designs.

With a boutique based in Sydney, Cindy Xu’s work celebrates the unparalleled beauty of Australian opals, blending artistry with a powerful message of environmental awareness. Her work is regularly exhibited at major jewellery shows around the world, from Hong Kong to Tucson, captivating audiences and expanding the global appeal of opal jewellery.
