Queensland-based Calleija Jewellers has joined forces with Aston Martin to produce a jewellery collection featuring a new gemstone cut, the Astar, which was inspired by “the contours of the iconic Aston Martin grille”.
Speaking at the unveiling of the ‘Calleija for Aston Martin Collection’ in London, Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez said the collection “embodies six years of design and creative development in the making”.
“The Astar is a unique cut of gemstone which draws on the design ethos and originality used to create our One-77 super car,” he said.
“The concept of the Astar gem cut was the creative conception of John Calleija which he perfected with the expertise and guidance of a virtuoso gemstone cutter.”
Describing the new cut as “a technical masterpiece”, Bez said that he shared a passion for quality and craftsmanship with the award-winning jeweller.
“When we initially discussed the project we wanted something exclusive and interesting to develop the connection between our two brands in an authentic way,” he said.
“I wanted a partner that would really embrace the values of Aston Martin and develop a product that would be the pinnacle of the range.
“There is no obvious external branding to our joint collaboration, they haven’t just taken our logo and added it to their range, there is integrity to our relationship. In art you want to know there is a history or story behind the piece that is created, so this is the principal used in the pieces produced.”
Each design in the ‘Calleija for Aston Martin Collection’ will be limited to just 77 pieces.
