The Jewellery Association of Australia's biannual jewellery design competition will be open to New Zealanders for the first time this year.
The Jewellery Association of Australia’s biannual jewellery design competition will be open to New Zealanders for the first time this year.

Announcing the change, JAA CEO Ian Hadassin said the move had received the overwhelming endorsement of the Jewellers and Watchmakers of New Zealand (JWNZ) and Jewellers Association of New Zealand (JANZ).

The Awards have been renamed the 2012 JAA Australasian Jewellery Awards to “better reflect the character of the competition”.

Hadassin said New Zealand jewellers and apprentices/students will be able to enter the Awards on the same terms and conditions as their Australian counterparts.

“The JAA sees this as a wonderful opportunity to bring the two industries closer together and to make the Awards the premiere design competition in the region.”

The results will be announced at a gala evening at the Sydney Hilton on September 3 “where the who’s who of the industry will gather to celebrate the leading lights of the jewellery world”.

The JAA Awards celebrate excellence in design and craftsmanship and provide industry members across Australia and New Zealand with “a vital arena in which to showcase their abundant creative talent”.

“The JAA is committed to bringing national media attention to all competition participants, providing each entrant a platform to share their unique brand and perspective with retail jewellery consumers in their market area and across the nation,” he said.
